  Yiwen Song Shapes Global Creative Direction

Yiwen Song, professionally known as Yvonne Song, is a New York-based Creative Director whose work brings together photography, filmmaking, production, creative strategy, and cultural research into a multidisciplinary practice. Working across music, fashion, editorial, and experiential culture, she collaborates with internationally recognized artists, brands, and creative communities to build distinctive visual experiences that connect audiences across multiple platforms.

Song approaches every project through a comprehensive creative framework that begins with research and conceptual planning before expanding into production, visual storytelling, photography, film, and live experiences. By combining these disciplines instead of treating them independently, she creates work that maintains a clear artistic language from initial concept through final delivery.

Her ability to oversee both the strategic and creative aspects of a project has made her a trusted collaborator for artists and brands seeking consistency across campaigns, editorial features, live performances, and digital platforms. Whether working behind the camera, directing production, or shaping broader creative concepts, Song focuses on building experiences that remain cohesive across every audience touchpoint.

Among her most recognized collaborations is her work with Grammy-nominated recording artist Miguel. As part of his creative team, Song contributed photography and visual development across multiple campaigns surrounding his recent projects. Her work included pre-album studio sessions, Miguel’s Washington Square Park pop-up performance, performances at Radio City Music Hall, an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon alongside J-Hope for the release of “Sweet Dreams,” and performances during Philadelphia’s Roots Picnic Festival. Collectively, these projects established a consistent visual narrative throughout Miguel’s album rollout, live performances, and promotional campaigns.

Her work has also led to collaborations with artists seeking a distinctive visual approach. Rap artist JT selected Song to photograph her Pride performance and exclusive pop-up activations, while internationally acclaimed artist Amaarae enlisted her to capture official behind-the-scenes photography and on-set imagery for the “Angles In Tibet” music video production. The resulting work was later featured through VEVO as part of the project’s official visual rollout.

Song’s contributions extend beyond individual campaigns into long-term artist branding. She created the photography for Sparrow & Barbossa’s cover campaign, producing imagery that supported the duo’s international touring cycle throughout 2024 and 2025 while appearing across press materials, festival promotions, Electronic Groove, Scorpios Mykonos, and other internationally recognized music platforms. She also created the cover artwork for electronic music producer Westend’s 2026 single, “The Ceiling,” helping establish the release’s visual identity.

Her international collaborations have continued to expand through projects with globally recognized artists including Jackson Wang, GALI, and Santa. Song contributed photography and on-set creative support for Jackson Wang’s “Pretty Please” production while also collaborating with The Berrics on the documentary Skateboarding in China Amidst a Global Pandemic: Diplomatic Immunity. Together, these projects demonstrate her ability to translate stories across cultural and creative boundaries while adapting to diverse production environments.

Alongside commercial work, Song regularly develops independent concepts that blend music, culture, and public engagement. In Shanghai, she independently conceived, directed, and produced a 7-Eleven-inspired music and cultural activation that transformed a familiar retail environment into an immersive live experience. Responsible for every stage of the project—from initial concept through production and final execution—she demonstrated her ability to transform unconventional ideas into memorable cultural experiences. The activation generated more than 2,000 engagements on RED (Xiaohongshu), reflecting strong audience reception within one of China’s largest lifestyle communities.

Her interest in storytelling also extends into documentary filmmaking. Song’s film I Dance Because I Am Lost received recognition at the Lift-Off Film Festival, highlighting her exploration of identity, creativity, and human connection through nonfiction cinema.

Beyond her work behind the scenes, Song maintains an active career as a DJ, giving her firsthand insight into the relationship between artists, audiences, and live performance. This perspective informs the way she approaches creative projects, allowing her to produce work that reflects both the performer’s artistic intent and the audience’s experience. Her performances have taken her to New York, Paris, Shanghai, and the Philippines, including recurring appearances at Silencio Paris during Fashion Week throughout 2024 and 2025, the Lil Tecca “PLAN A” album release celebration, events surrounding Rolling Loud, Public Artspace’s New York Tech Week opening alongside Ian Asher, and venues including the Chocolate Factory and 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge.

Song has also contributed to one of electronic music’s most recognized global platforms through her work with Boiler Room Shanghai. She led the event’s photographic coverage, documenting performances by Cocoonics, Cola Ren, DJ EBP, GOGA, Mau Mau, and Takaaki Itoh while helping preserve the atmosphere and cultural significance of the event through visual documentation.

Looking Ahead: Expanding Global Creative Storytelling

Looking ahead, Song is focused on exploring emerging creative communities through a series of original international initiatives. She is currently producing a documentary-style series following Gen Z creatives across New York, Paris, Shanghai, and the United Kingdom. Bringing together photography, filmmaking, music, fashion, and cultural research, the series examines how a new generation of artists, designers, musicians, photographers, and innovators is redefining contemporary culture through collaboration, technology, and interdisciplinary expression.

An early edition of the series was presented at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts Collaborative Arts Thesis Screening. Building on that foundation, Song plans to expand the project through additional international productions while pursuing editorial publication opportunities with platforms including NOWNESS.

As her practice continues to grow, Song remains dedicated to producing original work that brings together visual media, cultural exploration, experiential design, and emerging technologies. Guided by research, storytelling, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, she aims to create experiences that connect artists, brands, and communities while contributing to the evolving landscape of contemporary global culture.

I prefer this version because it ends on a stronger forward-looking note and introduces new language instead of revisiting terms like “creative projects,” “body of work,” “multidisciplinary execution,” and “continues to create meaningful work.” It also reads more like a feature in a publication than a traditional press release while remaining professional.
