Older Future soars on The Captains: neon melodies, ironclad grooves

From the first bar, The Captains makes a promise: momentum with meaning. Older Future—the project of Israeli producer Alon Yaish—threads the needle between late-night immediacy and psychological candor. The palette leans synth-heavy and beat-forward, but the hooks have narrative gravity; the record tells you who’s steering and what storms were crossed.

“Mitch” walks in with chrome-bright arpeggios, then leans back to let the drums breathe—DJ-friendly, but not formulaic. “Neon Summer” is the single-that-should-be: a patient build, bass that hugs the subs, and a lead line that paints its own afterglow. “The nerd” is a sly nod to outcast energy, its staccato motifs tightening the room. On “The confession”, the groove narrows; pads smear like memory while snares flicker with breakbeat DNA.

The two “(keep my job edit)” cuts—“Supersong” and “Fuckrockers”—carry teeth: playful titles masking a work-culture critique that still slaps at peak time. “I am I was I will I want” is manifesto and mantra, a four-part pulse that translates self-inquiry into motion. The closer “New plug” is relief and resolve; it doesn’t explode, it convinces.

Slot this next to Dorian Concept, Jon Hopkins, even the pop-tinted edges of Daft Punk—but what lingers is Older Future’s voice: earnest, engineered, and built to move a floor without dumbing down the room.
