A-Eno-Acid’s The Last Jack: Acid That Waits for the Room to Lock In
Smoke, a low ceiling, and a 303 line that keeps folding back on itself: that is the room this record builds. Most of it sits in late-1980s Chicago acid house territory, and it is dark with it — no easy lift, no obvious peak, just pressure held steady.
The later cuts drift toward early-1990s Detroit, and a couple of them step back into home-listening acid and house, which keeps the whole thing from turning into a one-note jack. It closes on an ambient 303 piece. Placid, DAMO B, Colin Dale and Jerome Hill have all played A-Eno-Acid material, which tells you where it lands.
As a selector’s tool it is best saved for the point in the night when the floor is locked in and nobody needs convincing. Dark, patient, unhurried — acid for the hours when the lights are already low.
