Machine Soul: Occipital Explores Tension and Transformation on “Epiphany”
Spanish producer, engineer and instrument designer Occipital presents Epiphany, his debut release on Runemark Records, accompanied by a remix from Ten Walls.
Occipital’s relationship with electronic music extends beyond conventional production. After spending years building instruments—including the widely acclaimed OXI One sequencer—he now channels that technical knowledge back into his own artistic work. The result is music in which hardware, physical interaction and emotional expression exist as parts of the same process.
The original version of Epiphany develops through a hypnotic progressive structure. Its melodic leads introduce an unmistakable feeling of melancholy, while the more aggressive elements provide weight and forward motion. Deep house, progressive and techno influences meet without the track becoming restricted to one specific category.
This balance gives the production its personality. The emotional elements do not soften its club impact, and the darker rhythmic foundation does not overwhelm its melodic message. Instead, both sides continually reinforce one another as the arrangement progresses.
Ten Walls approaches the composition by reworking its progressions and bassline. His remix retains the original track’s central atmosphere but redirects its energy, offering a fresh interpretation that feels connected to Occipital’s version rather than merely placed beside it.
Listening to the two tracks together reveals the strength of the underlying composition. The original focuses on Occipital’s direct relationship with his machines, while the remix demonstrates how the same musical idea can support a new rhythmic and structural perspective.
Epiphany therefore works as more than an introduction to a new project. It marks Occipital’s return to releasing music and reconnects his work as an instrument designer with the reason those instruments existed in the first place: creating and sharing music.
